Chocking up the Z axis slide is necessary when the Z motor is going to be removed.
The brake on the Z motor and the power of the Z motor when the machine is enabled are all that keep the Z slide from falling.
When the motor is removed, the slide will fall.
To properly and safely chock up the Z slide:
- Find a thick piece of foam or several flat pieces of cardboard.
- Place them under the spindle or Z axis
- Gently lower the Z axis into the foam or cardboard until slight downward pressure is exerted
The axis is now chocked up.
